What's New?

LASOS has been busy!! In July we moved to our new space at 33 W Courtland St and with the new space came new members!! Currently we serve over 2678 individuals and 4010 family groups in Harford County!

Perhaps the most exciting things that have come from the move is the wonderful partnerships that have been created. With funding provided by the Greater Bel Air Foundation and Harford Mutual Insurance, Akehurst Lawnservices built us a wonderful patio in memory of Brian Akehurst who was a fantastic community member and leader for our members and staff to enjoy.

We were granted a Home Depot grant which allowed for many of the internal and external repairs to be completed and their staff came and lent a hand in updating the space.

As our work dictates support and mentoring is key to the success of our organization, thus each room was adopted so that members feel the support needed during their integration period special thanks to:

  • Harford Mutual Insurance
  • Boorghi International
  • Patti Dresher
  • Kyle Tomlinson with State Farm Insurance
  • The Harford County Office of Drug Control Policy
  • Aberdeen Proving Ground
  • The Thatcher Family
  • Hazel and Larry Hopkins

Our programming also continues to grow and develop, this year we held 4 familyliteracy programs around the county, 4 days a youth mentoring a week for 273 youth, leadership seminars for children serving 225 as they grow into productive citizens, delivered ESOL classes to 354 adults and aided 23 new Americans as they made their final step into being a US Citizen.

We supported 331 people to obtain health care, 245 with legal services referral, 2156 case work files, fed 790 families in need through food drives with the Maryland Food Bank, 279 with housing, and helped secure employment for 689 people.

Currently we are finalizing current programs gearing up for Summer Camp and planning programs for the 2015-2016 year
